Maryborough - Rd 1 Qld Series, Rd 1 Fraser Coast Series

50 cars nominated for the first round of the Exide Batteries Nambour Round 1 of the Queensland series which was a joint event with Round 1 of the Fraser Coast Series. This season will see us make the journey back to Maryborough on a number of occassions to hopefully complete these series.

With a lack of rain, the promoters aimed to keep the track racy by continually watering the pole line. This made the racing line quite high. Heat 1 I was to start out of 10, but with some cars not showing I started out of 8th. I found some good drive up high and was attempting to go around Darran Lester but I got a little too high and off the racing line allowing Dale Grotherr through. I was able to get back in front of Grotherr in the final stages of the race and finished in 5th.

Heat 2 and I again started off the back. It was a follow-the-leader race and I finished in 5th again.

Heat 3 I got a front row start with Shaney Mac. Shane had the outside which was the place to be with the water truck again wetting the pole line. I followed Shane home for a close 2nd, with both Shane and I able to pull a sizeable lead on the rest of the field.

I just missed out on qualifying for the feature and had to start off pole for the Bmain. Steve Price was out of 2 - again the high line was the place to be. I settled in behind Pricey, and never really able to challenge him, followed him home for 2nd qualifier for the Amain.

I started out of 18 for the Amain which was a typical Modified Production race, full of action and eventually retirements. The race was declared with only a few laps remaining when there was yet another stoppage. I was extremely happy with the car. It was coming on strong. Perhaps I didn't have a chance of gaining any more spots with the track not really having a passing line left, but the car definately had more to give. I was extremely happy to finish in 6th position, giving me a good start to the points battle for the series.

Thanks to our sponsors The Open Range, NB Refrigeration, S & S Genrich Painting Contractors for all their support this season. Their support will enable me to compete in the entire series. The next round of the Fraser Coast series will be held in Maryborough on 1/2 January, 2010. This will be my next run in the car with Cathy taking it for a run at the next Charlton club meeting December 12th.
