Qld Title - Gympie - 24/25 April, 2010
32 cars nominated to compete in the Qld title at the challenging Gympie track, including current champion, Shane Macdonald. With Gympie being such a unique track, the locals are brilliant to watch in action on a track that they know so well, and have their cars set up to conquer. Number 8 however is extremely down on horsepower to be able to cope with pulling out of the hairpin. The first nights racing rained out, so on the 2nd night, they had to fit the full program in - 5 heats, B & A-mains. Rodney struggled through his heats gaining valuable points by finishing each heat, but pulling out of a few situations to avoid contact and consequent damage, then suffering with the loss of valuable positions and therefore points.
Rodney started the B-main out of 4 and with the track starting to go away at this stage of the meeting, saw the VS #8 start to come on strong and bought the rest of the cars back to a level playing field. Rodney finished the B in 2nd giving him a start out of 18 in the A-main.
The A-main was a sensational race with Mark Carlin off pole and Todd Doyle out of 2. The race wasn't without incidents and slowly the field depleted. The lead changed a couple of times throughout the race and in the end Aidan Raymont was the victor from a hard-chargning Nathan Macdonald who was putting fierce pressure on Raymont for the final few laps. Not to be left behind, reigning champ Shane Macdonald was hot on the heels of his brother to finish in 3rd. Rodney finished in a credible 6th place giving the top 6 three Toowoomba finishers.
We'd like to thank our sponsors The Open Range, NB Refrigeration, S & S Genrich Painting Contractors for all their support this season, and the pit crew for this weekend - Andrew Harper & Corey Stein - thanks for their help throughout the entire season. Thanks to Mum & Dad for coming and supporting Rodney, and for their help sitting with the boys allowing me to be able to help Rodney out in the pits.
We race again next weekend at Maryborough for the Australian Open which will see 70 mighty Modified Productions hit the track for a 2-night meeting.
