News - Modified Production Number 8

Charlton Raceway

Sunday, 11th January, the Modified Productions were support to World Series Sprintcars. 10 cars fronted and it was exciting to have the chance to race on our home track in front of a very large crowd.

Heat 1 I started off the front row with Mark Ferguson out of Pole. The track was quite wet and being on the high line was not the place to be. By turn 2 I was back in 4th with Fergie out in front and Darran Lester and Matt Swarbrooke getting through on the start. It took a few laps for the track to start coming good and I was able to work my way back into 2nd with Darran Lester taking the win and Matt Swarbooke following home in 3rd.

Heat 2 I started out of 7th. It was a fast and close heat race on a good track. I made a few spots throughout the race. The heat was won by Peter Gray, with Darran Lester home in 2nd and Shane Macdonald in 3rd. Matt Swarbrooke got underneath me on the last lap to finish 4th leaving me to settle for 5th.

The A-main I started out of 3. On the start I was in 2nd place behind Darran Lester. A few laps in I was trying to go high around Lester but prior to our race start they had watered the track up close to the fence and I soon found there was no drive up there at all. The right rear of the car tagged the fence and although I was able to regather the car and keep going, Robert Trapp and Mark Ferguson had gotten underneath me and I found myself back in 4th place. I had to work hard to get back in front of Fergie and by the time I caught up to Lester he retired from the race with mechanical problems. Trappy was too far out in front by this stage but I was happy to come home in 2nd with Fergie following home in 3rd.
