News - Modified Production Number 8

Modified Production 1000

We ventured down to Brisbane International Speedway for the running of the Modified Production 1000.

I've only competed twice at BIS in Modified Production with mixed results - firstly a massive roll-over when the car was brand new, but more importantly, more recently a feature race win. I am reasonably familiar with the track having competed there many times with East Coast A-Grade. With 30 cars nominated, my goal was to qualify for the A-main. As I hit the track it was hard not to be cautious as memories of the roll-over came back to haunt me.

In the first heat I started out of 8 and made my way into 3rd on the first lap. In lap 2 I was able to make an inside move to put me into 2nd place where I finished behind a fast charging Shane Macdonald.

Heat 2 gave me pole beside Shane Dennis, and I stayed out in front for the whole race, but not without pressure from Jason Campbell for a number of laps. Colin Hockley came through for 2nd followed by Jason Campbell and Shane Dennis.

Heat 3 I started out of 6 and at the start of the race I copped a hit on the front left of the car which sent me over the cushion where I got another hit to the front left. At this stage I was unable to re-enter the race till all the cars had already cleared out. I was unsure if there was damage to the steering so I took it steady to finish the race at the back of the field.

In the top 6 shootout I started out of 5 and the finishing places were as everyone started - Steve Price, Shane Macdonald, Greg Worling, Colin Hockley, myself & Robert Trapp who was out with a broken right hand hub and a wheel that had parted company with the car.

I started out of 5 in the feature and going into turn 4 came into contact with the rear of Colin Hockley's car and bent the steering seeing me watch the last 29 laps from the infield.

Robert Trapp was quick and consistant challenging Todd Doyle for 3rd, but contact saw Trappy out with a flat tyre. Shane Macdonald got put to the rear on the first lap after Greg Worling spun and the stewards deemed it to be the fault of Macdonald. Shane battled with the back markers till contact saw him out with front suspension damage. Dennis Bullpitt remained strong for the entire feature race coming home in 5th.
